The iconic Maltese vintage buses are not just vehicles — they’re moving pieces of history. Most were built between the 1930s and 1970s, primarily on chassis from British manufacturers such as Bedford, Thames (Ford), and Dodge. What makes them unique is that while the chassis and engines were imported, the bodywork was handcrafted locally by skilled Maltese coachbuilders.

Each bus had its own unique style, often with hand-painted artwork, chrome details, and custom interiors, making every vehicle one-of-a-kind. The buses were used extensively in Malta’s public transport system up until 2011, when the national network was modernised. Today, many of these buses have been lovingly restored and are used for private tours, weddings, filming, and events.
